WHY BECOME BREEDERS?

Img34.bmp

We have always had an interest in breeding but decided many years ago that it was important to us that we NOT be thought of as a backyard breeder.  For this reason, we always neutered all of our dogs until we found one that fit our standard of breed quality.

When I started showing and competing with our two boys (Tank & Porter) we began to think about starting a breeding program.

It was our third Berner that became our first breeding dog.   With Lisa Ebnet  (von der Ebnet Bernese) as our mentor, we took Calli home in Febuary 2002.

We were thrilled that Calli had longevity in her lines along with good orthopedics and good temperaments.  Her movements were so smooth that after we'd had her for two weeks, we suspected she had great potential.

Calli started her show career at six months and by one year old had her Canadian Championship and was one point shy of having her AKC Championship.

Calli finished her AKC Championship in June of 2003 at 18 months.  Calli went on to get her CD, Companion Dog Obedience Title, during the spring of 2004 and shortly afterwards received the same title in Canada.

calli drafting.bmpIn Sept. of 2004 Calli passed her first draft test to be awarded her NDD, Novice Draft Dog Title, and become a BMDCA Versatility Dog at less then 3 years old. Knowing Calli was a good working dog and with all her health tests done, with great results, we moved forward with our plans to breed.
