porter & calli carting Calli came to us at eight weeks, from Lisa Ebnet. Lisa was about to go on a trip out of the country and I volunteered to watch Calli while she was gone. We were waiting for another boy, but I had secretly wanted a girl, yet hadn't voiced that to anyone. When Lisa called to say she was looking for a home for this girl and did we want to watch her, I thought this just might be my chance:>) For the two weeks that Lisa was gone we didn't have a name for Calli as I was still telling Tom that she was just being puppy sat.  (I don't think Tom believed it for a minute)

From the minute I brought Calli home she was "in charge"! She would sit next to Porter and put her paw on his head and then steal his food. He would just watch her.  Calli knew how to get what she wanted from the dogs and from us! Always pushy and demanding in a cute way, she so reminded me of her mother.

Destructive! That one word describes what Calli was for the first three years of her life! She'd run past a plant and grab a branch on her way, she'd pull up plants once she killed them, usually by digging so much around them that they died. We have pictures of her with light fixtures that she removed from the yard.  No plant or ornamentation was safe!   However, she was so cute and so loving, you just had to forgive her.  We found that if you kept her busy she wasn't as destructive so we "amped-up" her training and exercising!  Calli still likes to have fun and runs with her daughters and Porter as often as she can.

Lump? What kind of a nick-name is that?  Well, Calli has a way of plopping herself down so you have to notice her and have to pet her because she traps you.  As a pup, she'd wake up in the morning, jump on the bed and plop on your head. She'd lick you and cuddle up close and while you were trying to breathe, she was just looking for her morning snuggle time.   Once Calli plops herself down, she's practically impossible to move.  She's just one big "lump" of fur and determination.   Hence the nickname, Lump !

My favorite time of the day with Calli is the morning. She's decided that "sleeping in" is better then getting up and eating breakfast!  I can identify with this !!  When I get up, Calli suddenly appears and jumps on the bed and twirls around so she's facing the edge of the bed and dangles her feet.

If you get close to her but don't hug her she'll paw you till you start those hugs.  Of course I give her the hugs she deserves and then we get the day started!

Calli loves to go everywhere I go and has decided that she should ALWAYS be the "chosen one" to go on all walks and car rides with me.  She'll refuse to take a treat, refuse to come into the garage and just stands next to the car, telling me to take her.  Being the sucker that I am, this works quite often.
